About us

Behind the Mysore Yoga Expeditions project is the connection between Dina and Lorella, two yoginis who crossed paths in Mysore, practicing for years under the guidance of the same teacher, Ajay Kumar.

A casuality

"My beginnings in the world of Yoga were a complete coincidence. I had just arrived in India, specifically in Chennai, where I was going to work as a Spanish teacher for a year. I went there with a working visa, I arrived in India because it was the first country that gave me work as a teacher, and since I wanted to travel, I decided to jump into the pool."

A cultural experience

"Once there, I thought learning yoga could be a good objective during my stay - a cultural experience. And, after a short time, thanks to one of my students, I found the Sivananda Yoga Center in Chennai.

I remember that Chennai was quite a chaotic city at that time, that was in 2013. Work was also a bit stressful, and every time I entered that small ashram, I forgot about all this stress and managed to not think about anything. I liked it so much that once I finished that first year in Chennai, I decided to extend my visa and do my first yoga teacher training with Swami Govidananda. I stayed 5 more months in that wonderful country, one in the Sivananda ashram and four more in Mysore, where I discovered Ashtanga, also by coincidence."

My love story with Ashtanga

"A girl I had met in a class in Chennai told me that if I liked more dynamic yoga, I had to go to Mysore. So I did, without asking more or looking for more information, and suddenly I was in Mysore, in the Kaveri hotel, waiting for the new day to begin to meet the one who was going to be my Ashtanga teacher until now. I stayed for four months this time. I learned everything from scratch, thanks to Ajay Kumar and his assistant at the time, Siva Prakash.

It was a totally revealing experience. I realized here that practicing yoga helped me focus, have a more organized life, and get away from the party and nightlife, which were the most common hobbies I used to have in Spain when I lived there. With yoga, I automatically wanted to eat better and sleep a certain number of hours, so I could get up the next day and have a good practice. I understood that all of this helped me take better care of myself in general, and that made me feel better about myself and others.

Since then, I always return to Mysore, the practice makes me stronger, more independent, and more brave. It makes me feel good, and I want everyone to be able to experience it like I did. I want to make people feel good through yoga. And I firmly believe that this will make the world we live in better, more aware and more connected."

Travel

"I was introduced to the Ashtanga practice in 2018, during my first self-discovery trip to India. In a time of great uncertainty and confusion, like that one I was going through (I had left a stable job, a house and a ordinary life behind) the practice became a lifeline and the tool to embark on the true journey I needed: the journey within myself."

A new value system

"Thanks to my practice and the teachers I was lucky enough to meet, I rebuilt my value system so that I could live in harmony with my true nature. I managed to reconcile the part of me that needed stability with the part that asked for freedom and research, until I decided to give space to the second one. In 2022 I moved to India to practice alongside my teacher Ajay Kumar and dedicate myself completely to my personal research, thanks to the sacrifices made in the previous years. I am certainly going for the right path, but the road is still long."

Sharing

"At the end of 2022 I was authorized from my teacher to share the first series of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. Once again, the path that led to this result was an invaluable journey of personal growth. But the most exciting journey is the one that began with my decision to pass on this practice to those who feel the need to find a long-lost balance and their own purpose, often very different from what is asked us from the outside."
